Iraq plans building national AI infrastructure
Iraq is working on a plan to build national infrastructure for artificial intelligence and advanced data processing, enabling state institutions to develop their own AI solutions.
According to the Iraqi News Agency, the plan was discussed during a meeting between Baligh Abu Kilal, head of the Iraqi Communications and Media Commission’s Executive Body, and Diaa Al-Jumaili, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Artificial Intelligence Affairs.
Building domestic AI capabilities
The proposed cooperation project would establish specialized national infrastructure using technologies required to run AI applications and advanced data processing.
The two sides also discussed developing local expertise and creating opportunities for Iraqi talent to participate in future technology projects.
Abu Kilal said Iraq should move beyond simply using AI applications and instead build infrastructure that allows institutions to develop their own solutions and projects.
The Commission said the two sides agreed to continue coordination, exchange expertise and examine proposed projects and initiatives aimed at developing national AI capabilities.
