The Gulf Cooperation Council has completed a draft joint strategy to combat cybercrime and crimes involving artificial intelligence as part of wider efforts to strengthen security coordination across the six GCC states.
GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi announced the development during the Security and History Dialogue 2026 in Riyadh, according to the official GCC General Secretariat statement.
Focus on emerging security threats
Albudaiwi said changing forms of crime and cross-border threats require GCC states to strengthen coordination and move toward more preemptive security measures.
Albudaiwi also pointed to wider security integration across the GCC, including the electronic linking of security systems between member states. He said Gulf countries are also developing a joint approach to artificial intelligence alongside their cooperation on cybercrime.
He also highlighted wider Gulf cooperation against narcotics and money laundering. The draft strategy on cybercrime and AI-related crimes forms part of this broader security framework.
