Milestone Adds Incident Mapping to XProtect 2026 R2
Milestone Systems has announced new tools to help security operators manage incidents across large surveillance networks. The XProtect 2026 R2 release focuses on incident context, system administration, and operational continuity.
Milestone introduced XProtect 2026 R2 alongside updates to its Arcules cloud platform. The improvements target security operations across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
Maps Connect Cameras, Alarms, and Incident Locations
One of the key developments is Maps, a feature designed to bring cameras, alarms, connected devices, and live video into a shared geographic view. Security operators will be able to identify incident locations, locate nearby cameras, and access live video directly from geographic maps or building floor plans.
The new Maps feature will connect cameras, alarms, and live video with geographic locations and floor plans, helping operators navigate complex surveillance environments. Availability is planned for future XProtect Smart Client releases.
Milestone identifies airports, hospitals, and campuses as environments where the feature could help operators navigate surveillance networks containing hundreds or thousands of cameras. Maps is scheduled for availability in future XProtect Smart Client releases.
The update also introduces Sticky Notes, allowing operators to attach instructions, site-specific information, and shift handover details to individual camera views. Administrators can configure these notes centrally, while color coding helps communicate operational priorities.
Centralized Management for Large Installations
XProtect 2026 R2 introduces Server Logs to consolidate audit, system, and rule logs across surveillance installations. The feature supports troubleshooting, activity reviews, and compliance reporting. Permission Inheritance allows newly added cameras and devices to automatically receive the access permissions assigned to their device group.
“Our customers are managing more cameras, more sites and more information than ever,” said Andrew Burnett, CTO of Milestone Systems.
XProtect Remote Manager, available through Milestone Care Plus, also provides browser-based monitoring of system health across multiple sites. The latest release builds on Milestone’s existing video management ecosystem, including integrations with third-party camera analytics.
Arcules Expands Cloud Backup and Sensor Integration
Alongside the XProtect release, Milestone announced enhancements to Arcules for cloud and hybrid video surveillance. Cloud Backup for Edge Gateways uploads a lower-resolution secondary video stream for off-site retention. The approach is designed to reduce bandwidth and storage requirements.
A new integration with Triton Sensors combines environmental and occupancy information with video and event data. Users can create alarms, rules, and video-linked sensor events within the platform.
Additional improvements include automatic HTTPS encryption between gateways and supported cameras, faster local video streaming, and improved diagnostics for hybrid installations. Unlike XProtect features supported through Milestone Care, new Arcules capabilities are delivered automatically as part of the cloud service.
