Teledyne FLIR unveils Ranger R10-3DX drone radar

Teledyne FLIR Defense has launched the Ranger R10-3DX, a compact radar designed to detect and track drones around airports, borders and critical infrastructure.

The company introduced the system at AUSA 2026, according to its official announcement. The new radar uses digital beamforming technology to provide continuous wide-area surveillance. Its compact design also maintains a low size, weight and power footprint.

Radar detects small drones beyond 3 kilometers

According to Teledyne FLIR Defense, the Ranger R10-3DX can detect micro-unmanned aircraft systems (micro-UAS) at distances exceeding 3 kilometers. The radar also detects pedestrians beyond 6 kilometers and light vehicles at more than 12 kilometers.

A single radar panel provides 90-degree horizontal coverage and up to 60 degrees of vertical coverage. Meanwhile, a four-panel configuration enables full 360-degree surveillance.

The system also incorporates AI-based target classification. Its algorithms help operators distinguish between drones, conventional aircraft, birds, pedestrians and vehicles. In addition, the radar can track multiple targets simultaneously, supporting the detection of complex drone incursions.

Designed for layered security systems

Teledyne FLIR developed the Ranger R10-3DX for several applications, including airport security, border monitoring, coastal surveillance and critical infrastructure protection. The radar supports both fixed installations and mobile platforms. It can also integrate with electro-optical and infrared sensors, as well as drone mitigation systems.

The Ranger R10-3DX gives operators an affordable, compact, and highly capable radar solution that delivers the early warning and tracking performance needed to counter evolving drone threats.

According to the company, the radar features a rugged design qualified to MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461G standards. Teledyne FLIR Defense expects the Ranger R10-3DX to become available in the first quarter of 2027.
